Hello,
I am currently trialing Easy Books.
I need to use Easy Books on my iPad2 which is effectively my main computer and then back up once a day to my desktop PC for printing off invoices and also to have a back up copy of all my accounting data entered on the iPad for security in case something happens to the iPad. How do I do this? (I will not be entering any data directly onto my PC, just using it as a back up and for printing off invoices and VAT/tax reports. I have iTunes installed on the PC)

Thanks,

Michael Stern

    Hi Michael,

You can send the backup file by email, or you can run the backup and store the backup file on the device temporarily to retrieve it later using iTunes. This second option is probably the best fit for what you said you wanted to do.

So when you run the backup, choose the option Send to iTunes. You'll just see an animated green tick appear for a short time to show you the process has completed. The backup file is then stored on the device in the app's documents folder. This is obviously not a very safe place for it to stay, because your iPad may get stolen or broken. So your plan for copying the backup file off each day is a really good idea. Just connect to iTunes to move the files to your PC.

I wrote a knowledge base article for this process:

    I hope that helps!

    Hello Mathew,

Thank you very much for your helpful reply.

Could you clarify one thing: will I be able to print copies of the invoices
and reports from the backup file on my PC, or will I only be able to print
directly from the app while it is running on my iPad?

This is simply a cost issue for me - my printer does not have bluetooth and
is connected to my PC by a usb cable. If I can use my existing printer
rather than having to buy an iPad compatible bluetooth printer, I will save
    some additional expense.

    Many thanks,
    Michael

The backup file is only for restoring your business data to the same or another device.

If you want to print reports from the computer, you can do that, just run the report on the iPad, then choose the option to Share with iTunes. This sends the file to the documents folder just like the backup file as above.
