Manual VAT Return
Hi,
I've started using Easy Books on the Mac for my new tax year. I've
noticed when I'm putting invoices on the system that it seems to
default to ex-VAT rather than using the preference that I've set in
'preferences' to be inclusive. It's not a major problem, but it
would make life easier. Also is there a way to input several
transactions on an account at a time, rather than having to click +
to add a new one each time?
My main query relates to VAT returns though. I ended up registering part way through last year and as a result historically my VAT quarters haven't been aligned with my tax year. This means that I have two months of the last VAT quarter in last year and one month in this year. I've done a manual online VAT return through the HMRC website for that quarter and have added together the carry-forward balance and the total for April, but I can't see how to clear the balance ready for the next quarter. Is there an easy way to do this? Also, I've had confirmation from HMRC that I can change my VAT quarter so that my next quarter will end in June rather than July. I presume that this should work fine by just setting the period to 2 months, then subsequently putting it back to 3 months?
Many thanks
Jonathan

I hope these answers help with your queries.
The preferences for the VAT settings should stay the same when they have been set. We will take a look at this for you.
The new update does contain a shortcut to the plus button (CMD +) for adding a new entry, the update will be available in a week or two.
As for the VAT question, this sounds like you should enter the extra months entries manually on the VAT due account. If you have any doubt about it, it would be best to talk to your accountant.
Thanks for being interested in Easy Books and for the feedback.
All the best
Karen

Hi Karen,
Thanks for getting back to me. I think I've sorted the VAT issue, though I'll know better when my next return is due at the end of June. Other than that so far so good. I've used spreadsheets for the last 4-5 years, which have been sufficient, but since the VAT registration it's started to get a bit too complicated. The simplicity of Easy Books is a welcome breath of fresh air!
Kind regards
