Repeating entries

Hi. I'm so pleased with the software that I'm entering all my historic data since 2006.

I see that if I set up a monthly bill as a repeating entry, I can set the frequency of the repeat. I'm encountering a problem, however.

If I start a repeating transaction in 2006 (and making a payment), I can see no way to end that repeat to coincide with a change to the VAT rate. Equally, if the cost of a repeating transaction changes in , say, 2009, do I need to delete all transactions and payments with the original values and then add a new transaction with the new amount?

I'm wondering if it might be easier to just duplicate the transactions until they change, then duplicate the new ones. However, this will involve about 1300 transactions, so I'm wanting to check that there is no easier way of doing this before i proceed.

Thanks,

Darren

I'm not sure I would bother! You might be better off just setting opening balances for your accounts instead and I'm sure if you did this using data from your existing system and kept a copy of the older data you would be fine.

The repeating transaction feature is designed to be a forward looking entry, and the intention is that you might enter the most recent transaction (such as a standing order), then let Easy Books wait for the next date to pass, when it should spring into action and copy the last entry to make a new one. It doesn't try to adjust the values you've set such as VAT as it shouldn't make the assumption that it knows better than you do!

There isn't a "repeat until date X" field either, as this isn't what the feature was supposed to do, but in your case I can see that it would really help.

Sorry it isn't quite what you need, and I can't think of an easy way for you to enter all the information apart from the manual method of duplicating, or editing. I bet that opening balances idea is seeming more attractive now!!!

All the best, I'm sorry I can't help you out this time,

    Mathew
