how to account for bank interest on a flat rate vat return #2
Hello!
Further to my previous post:
http://help.easybooksapp.com/discussions/questions/332-how-to-accou...
I was wondering when the fix will be deployed. You said it may be ready this year. I know you gave a workaround (which I have not tested yet since my next return is December). However, not all of your customers may be aware of this error and may be overpaying VAT so a fix is quite important, I think.
Thanks,
-Martin.

I still have this on the list to do. Sorry it's taking a long time but it is quite a big list.

OK. Is this item at the top of the list and do you have an ETA for the fix pls?
The reason that I think it should be at the top of the list is that users of your app who are on the flat rate VAT scheme will almost certainly also earn bank interest. Since this bug can cause all such users of your app to overpay their VAT this is a high priority issue, surely?
Thanks.
-Martin.

Hi - looks like you accidentally closed this discussion without replying. Can you state an ETA pls?
I am sorry to keep banging on about this issue, but it's important for the reasons stated in my previous post.
-Martin.

ETA is still as before. I have some more critical work to do first. The reason this is not the number one priority is down to the number of businesses using Easy Books for the flat rate scheme: I know of only one other business using the flat rate cash scheme.
Sorry about the bad news, for now please continue applying a manual adjustment and I'll get to it when I can.

Hi Mathew,
How do you know how many people are using flat rate?
For the record , I'm on the flat rate standard scheme and had discovered this bug today due to an incorrect VAT return being generated for my September to November return.
Please reconsider fixing this sooner.
Regards,
Adam

My previous plan to fix this involved making database changes, which I'm not able to do until other changes have been made as it affects the Online Sync service.
But I have an interim solution that should work for you. How about if the app detects the word "interest" in the account name and excludes the income based on this being present? I think this will work, what do you think? This can go in the next release.

Hi Mathew.
That sounds like a good compromise.
Thanks for listening.

Works for me as an interim solution. Let us know if you make it case sensitive pls.
Many thanks for doing this Mathew

I've uploaded the new version to Apple, so this should be with you in about a week's time.
The code looks for the phrase "interest" in the income accounts. This is not case sensitive. It will also surpress any accounts ending in a space, in case you are using a different naming style for your accounts. This should cover everything, but long-term I will produce another update with a switch per account, in the account settings, to take place of this.
I hope that works for you all, all the best,
Mathew

Hi all,
Just a quick note to let you know the update has finally been accepted into the store. It took a few re-writes to remove links and other things associated with Online Sync, and several emails to Apple testers but it's there now for you.
